Best Method to Test New Facebook Ads

Without proper testing of new ads, you may end up wasting money on unsuccessful ads that don’t perform well

Step 1: Define Your Goal

Introduction

Hi there my name is imonide precious and i have been running facebook ads for the past 5 years, i have tried multiple strategies for testing facebook ads and after much testing i have come up with my own unique method

I will be sharing this method with you in this article. In this article we will be focusing on how to test lead generation ads

Let’s dive into how you can test facebook ads the right way!

Understanding Facebook Ad Testing

What is Facebook Ad Testing?

Facebook Ad testing is the process of running multiple versions of an ad to see which performs best. By systematically testing different elements, you can identify what works and refine your strategy over time

Remember facebook  ad testing is more of a science than an art, which means there are systematic methods you must follow when testing new ads

Step-by-Step Guide to Testing Facebook Ads

Step 1: Define Your Goal

Before testing, determine what success looks like. Are you aiming for more clicks, higher conversions, cheaper leads or more messages? Setting a clear goal helps you measure results more effectively.

Step 2: Choose One Variable to Test

So many people make the mistake of trying to test multiple things at the same time, this will lead to inaccurate data

To get accurate results, test only one element at a time, such as:

  • Image vs. video
  • Different headlines
  • Different ad copy
  • Various CTA buttons

This ensures that any results you get are due to the variable you are testing.

Step 3: Create Multiple Ad Variations

Develop at least 3 versions of the ad with one key difference. For example, one ad might have a video, while the other has an image while using the same ad copy and headline

Or each ad may have different ad copies while maintaining the same image or video and headline

Or each ad will have different headline but using the same image/video and ad copy

Remember i said test just one variable at a time to avoid inaccurate results

Step 4: Run Your Ads for a Sufficient Period

Most articles online will tell you to test a new ad for 3-5 days before determining if it is a winner or not

I do not agree.

Here’s why, i have discovered after over 1000 ads that am ad that doesn’t perform on the first day hardly ever performed even if you give it more time

But you may be thinking “precious some ads pick up after a while”, that is true but what we want are killer ads

Ads that right out of the gate they start performing magic for us, we don’t want mediocre ads that need days to pick up

My ideal time for testing new ads is 8 hours, turn on the ad by 4am and let it run till 12pm

At this point you can then determine if the ad is doing well or not

Step 6: Analyze the Data and Optimize

After the test period, compare performance metrics like:

  • Click-Through Rate (CTR)
  • Conversion Rate
  • Cost Per Click (CPC)
  • Return on Ad Spend (ROAS)

Identify the winning ad and use those insights to improve future campaigns.

Best Facebook Ad Elements to Test

1. Ad Creative (Images vs. Videos)

Test whether static images or videos generate better engagement and conversions.

2. Headlines and Ad Copy

Your ad copy can significantly impact performance. Try different headlines and messaging styles.

3. Call-to-Action (CTA) Buttons

CTA buttons like “Learn More” vs. “Shop Now” can influence click-through rates.

4. Audience Targeting

Try different audiences:

  • Broad vs. niche targeting
  • Lookalike Audiences vs. Custom Audiences

5. Budget and Bidding Strategy

Compare:

  • Different daily budgets

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Testing Facebook Ads

Testing too many elements at once – Stick to one variable at a time.
Ending tests too soon – Let the test run long enough to collect meaningful data.
Ignoring key performance metrics – Focus on important KPIs like CTR, CPC, and ROAS.

By avoiding these mistakes, you can ensure accurate and actionable results.

Conclusion

Testing facebook ads is very crucial to having a successful advertising campaign. By testing ads you find winning ads that can help you achieve your advertising goals, such as more sals, cheaper cost per conversions or getting more brand awareness.

It is important to test new ads continuously even after you have found winning ads, because ads eventually undergo ad fatigue and stop performing overtime.

Testing Facebook Ads is essential to finding what works best for your brand. By following a structured approach, you can optimize ad performance, reduce costs, and increase ROI.

Start small, test consistently, and refine your strategy over time to maximize success!
